Jerry came to prominence for performing as a lead songwriter, guitarist, and singer with the rock band Grateful Dead. He was one of the founding members of the band. They hit the limelight for following the counterculture of the 1960s. He was the leader of the band, which won him several awards and accolades throughout the 1970s and 80s. Jerryâs father Jose Ramon “Joe” Garcia was of northwest Spanish descent, while his mother Ruth Marie “Bobbie” Garcia, was born in San Francisco. During his initial career, Jerry performed at the coffee house where he met Sara Ruppenthal in 1960. Garcia married his first wife, Sara in April 1963, with whom he had a daughter Heather.
Manasha met Jerry in 1978, Garcia who was also a music artist. They married after nearly 10 years of relationship in August 1990 at their home in San Anselmo, California. They have a daughter, Keelin Noel Garcia.

He started playing piano at an early age. Even though his middle finger was cut off in an accident, it could not stop him from becoming a legendary guitarist. He studied at San Francisco Art Institute, Denman Junior High School, Balboa High School, and graduated from the local Menlo Oaks school. He started his professional musical career by founding the band Grateful Dead. He, as a principal vocalist and songwriter, composed hit songs such as Franklin’s Tower”, “Scarlet Begonias”, and “Dark Star”. He also collaborated with Robert Hunter for a few songs.
