Being diagnosed with a rare type of cancer almost always spells looming death for most people. But not for this celebrity child. Katya Tylo first came into the limelight as a celebrity child of the famous Hunter and Michael Tylo.
She later captured the hearts of many when she battled a rare fatal type of cancer at a tender age and emerged victorious afterward. If that doesn’t spell courage, I don’t know what does.
Early Life
Katya Ariel Tylo was born on 15th January 1998 to Hunter Tylo and her ex-husband Michael Tylo. Her sun sign is Capricorn if you are into astrology, and her birthstone is Garnet.
Katya has three siblings, Christopher Morehart, born on 22nd January 1980, and Izabella Gabrielle Tylo, born on 12th November 1996. She lost one of her siblings, Michael Tylo Jr, on 18th October 2006, after he accidentally drowned in their pool in Henderson, Nevada. Her grandparents are Morris Jabez, Margaret Tylo, and Jo Anne Hunter.
Road to Beating Cancer
According to Katya’s mother, Hunter, her daughter cried more than usual when she was born. However, the new parents shrugged it off, attributing it to Kayla being a colicky baby. Hunter noticed a milky white layer beneath Katya’s pupils and took her daughter back to the hospital days later. Katya was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer, retinoblastoma when she was barely 14 days old.
Surgery was scheduled and performed, and after several bouts of chemotherapy, Katya survived cancer. Her right eye, however, could not be saved. Nevertheless, Katya now leads a healthy, cancer-free life thanks to her family’s immense support and love.
Katya’s Mother
Bold and beautiful. Deborah Jo Hunter is an American actress, author, and former model famously known for portraying Taylor Hanes’s character in The Bold and The Beautiful soap opera. Hunter was born on 3rd July 1962 in Fort Worth, Texas, to Jo Anne and Morris Jabez Hunter.
In 1985, Hunter had her television debut in the film All My Children but was fired after her relationship with a cast member, Michael Tylo, came to light.
She enrolled at Fordham University in the Bronx, New York, to pursue a degree as a pre-med student. She was, however, offered a role on the hit soap opera “The Bold and The Beautiful,” where she played the character Dr. Taylor Hayes.
Hunter released her autobiography in 2000, titled Making a Miracle. In addition, Hunter has appeared twice on the “50 Most Beautiful People in The World” list in the People magazine.
Katya’s Father
Michael Edward Tylo was born on 16th October 1948 in Detroit, Michigan, to Edward Tylo and his wife, Margaret. Apart from being an actor, Michael was a full-time professor in the College of Fine Arts at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
He met Hunter on the cast of the film All My Children, and they later got married in 1988. They divorced on 18th October 2007. However, this did not deter him from standing by his daughter’s side during the ordeal.
The legend, however, passed on in Henderson, Nevada, on 28th September 2021.
